CareerCamLive – February Round-up
Wow! We received our highest viewing numbers for last month’s CareerCamLive and I was able to answer nearly twenty of your careers questions. Thank you to everyone who got involved and gave me the opportunity to help with their job hunt.
For those who missed it, you can watch the recording here. I have also picked a couple of questions and summarised my answers for you.
Can you give an example of a personal brand and how can I identify and use it during my job search?
Your personal brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room (and when you are in the room sometimes).
Before you can identify how to best manage interview questions, design your LinkedIn profile and almost everything else in the recruitment process, you have to understand exactly what it is you are selling.
If a hiring manager is going to give you £30,000 a year, what will they be buying? Who are you? What motivates you? How do you react to things? What type of employee will you be?
The best place to start is to identify your key strengths and how you can add value to a business. Summarise all this in 3 words. This is your personal brand summary and you must now ensure that everything you say or write online and offline (this includes your profile pictures) represent those three words.
What should I say when an interviewer asks ‘Tell me a bit about yourself’?
You don’t have to spend twenty minutes answering this question. Just give a short summary of what your motivators and values are. What benefits you brought to your previous role and what has led you to be at this interview.
Also have a think about what you want to speak about during your interview. What are you really proud of, what do you think will impress the interviewer?
You can actually control a lot of the interview questions you get asked by the snippets of information you give throughout the interview.
The next CareerCamLive will be at 6.30pm on the 5th March. We have already received some of your career related questions so please keep them coming. You can email them to email@example.com
See you soon
