Online recruitment sites are “changing the face” of job hunting the in UK and are taking the emphasis away from offline methods, it has been claimed. Alex Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, believes that it is a sector which will continue to evolve over time and may see the use of social networking sites as an additional tool to job seekers. Speaking about the future of the industry, he said: “The job boards market is essentially a faceless one, it is therefore imperative for the online recruitment world to embrace Web 2.0, identify the trends coming through and work out new ways to engage with target audiences.” A survey carried out by the company found that 51.2 per cent of IT professionals questioned said they would use these methods to help them find employment in the future. Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters, recently told Personnel Today that many businesses are now adopting an “online only” policy when it comes to recruitment.
