Online recruitment ‘could help SMEs save money’

Small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) have been urged to adopt online recruitment strategies as they could be losing an estimated £69 million a year because of poor hiring decisions.

Speaking to Online Recruitment, Paul Burgess, managing director of eploy, said that according to research by jobsite.co.uk, SMEs invest £300 million on recruiting 250,000 employees every year.

By using online recruitment websites companies can have applications filtered so that skills are matched to the requirements of the job.

Mr Burgess said that “this allows the recruiter to focus on the ‘best match’ candidates first and importantly helps him/her broaden their candidate search in the first instance”.

Companies can also save time lost at the sifting stage, as they do not have to look through unsuitable CVs.

Earlier this week, the Times reported that flat-fee recruitment could be a good option for some SMEs which struggle to pay high recruitment charges.
