Recruiting the best of Exeter by targeting the growing online talent pool
– a webrecruit case study
Cannings is a multi-discipline company that offers building support services to public and private sector clients. Based in Marsh Barton, Exeter, their services include electrical and mechanical engineering, voice and data networking, air conditioning and planned maintenance.
Due to business growth, Bradley Cannings, Managing Director, had an urgent requirement to fill a number of positions. But finding qualified specialists in Devon, without paying thousands of pounds on recruitment, was proving a difficult feat.
Background: the employer’s challenge
Historically, Cannings have relied on traditional recruitment agencies and local newspapers to recruit. These recruitment methods, however, provided two frustrations. Traditional agency efforts weren’t delivering the right candidates and their fees were too high for the SME owner (with average pricing in the region of £3,000 – £4,000). Newspaper advertising couldn’t provide the reach to locate these candidate skill sets, and provided no guarantees.
But it was by luck that Bradley came across webrecruit following the recruitment company’s move to new premises in Marsh Barton.
The solution: webrecruit’s offering
webrecruit is a leading, low cost online recruiter that uses the internet to access the growing talent pool. With prices starting at £695, the company’s low fees mean businesses can save up to 90% on their cost-per-hire. Their access to a range of online resources allows them to tap into the growing online talent pool, and clients benefit from their low risk approach thanks to set service guarantees.
Bradley was assigned an account manager who talked him through his requirements; ensuring webrecruit was able to start targeting relevant candidates quickly. This information was used to create bespoke screening questions for incoming applications, and for the team to create the unique online recruitment copy used to attract candidates.
To attract active job hunters, the roles were featured on multi-sector, regional and industry specific resources, as well as social networking sites. This activity ensured online exposure and targeted candidates in the local area, as well as those applicants looking to relocate to the region.
In tandem with this, and to make the search more honed, their resourcing team utilised online headhunting techniques – using the CV databases to target and approach passive candidates and further penetrate the online talent pool.
Bradley commented: ‘One aspect of the service that I benefitted from was that it was down to me to look through the CVs and decide who to shortlist – I liked being in control. webrecruit firmly believes that the end employer is the most knowledgeable about a role – and they’re right. I was able to handle the CV selection process quickly’.
Within 7 days, Cannings began to receive a shortlist of applications to make their decision.
In less than 28 days, webrecruit provided Cannings with a number of relevant, quality CVs from which to select candidates for interview.
Thanks to webrecruit’s knowledge of the market and resources to use, successful hires were made for a commercial combustion engineer and air conditioning engineer.
Not only did Cannings benefit from webrecruit’s ability to find specialised candidates in Devon, but they also significantly reduced their recruitment spend, charging just £695+VAT for each vacancy.
Commenting on the overall process, Bradley said: ‘I was completely unaware of just how effective the internet is to recruit, and can’t believe I hadn’t heard of webrecruit before. Whilst it is a national service, I was delighted by their personalised service and ability to find quality, local candidates. I’ll definitely recommend them.’
