How to Love your Job
In today’s economic climate, we face numerous challenges within the workplace. Long hours, conflicting demands and the little balance between personal life and work commitments are just a few of the issues that lead us to question just how happy we are at work.
So how do you find a way to love your job? In the long term of course, you could change jobs. But for now, here are some tips to help you love your work more.
It’s helpful to see a tangible item as a result of your hard work.
Even if what you do for work doesn’t excite you each morning, you need to get motivated to face the day. Think of how your work allows you to have a life outside of it.
You can only do your best, so keep your work in perspective.
Quit thinking that your work life ‘should’ be a certain way. Expectations of what you were supposed to be, as instilled by your parents or teachers stop you from enjoying what you currently do.
Learn to relax; after all, it is only a job.
No matter how challenging or demanding the work becomes, remember, it’s only a job. Give it a few years and you’ll look back wondering what all the fuss was about.
When faced with conflicting demands, clarify them immediately.
Make sure you’re clear about what’s expected from you. The more upfront and clear you are with your manager and colleagues; the better it will be for you.
Learn something new every day.
At the end of the day, before you leave for home, evaluate what worked well and what could be improved the next day. If you feel pleased with the day’s work, reward yourself.
Say goodbye to your workspace as soon as you leave for home.
Don’t let work continue buzzing round your head once you’ve left for home. You already spend a third of your time there so go out, have some fun and make the most of your free time.
