The number of job vacancies within the UK's financial services sector increased by around nine per cent during June of this year, it has been revealed.

More businesses were looking to replace their existing staff last month than was the case in May and on the same comparative basis there were six per cent more people in the financial sector looking to move jobs.

E-recruitment is now a crucial part of how businesses find new staff and those that moved financial service jobs in June saw their salaries rise on average by close to 19 per cent, Morgan McKinley reports.

However, compared with June 2007, the number of jobs in the industry was down by around seven per cent last month and it typically took almost two months for an individual to find a new role.

"Given the challenging market environment that we're in, it is now more important than ever that employers hire the right people who can clearly add value to an organisation," said Robert Thesiger, chief executive of Imprint, Morgan McKinley's parent company.

Fewer graduates are being taken on by finance service sector employers as the year goes on, Dr Charlie Ball from the Hecsu charity group suggested recently.
