More people are being given temporary job opportunities than are being appointed permanently, it has been revealed.

According to a report from the Hays recruitment company, fewer Britons are being appointed to permanent positions as a result of the economic problems facing the UK.

Businesses across the country use online recruitment methods to fill both temporary and permanent jobs but construction and property companies are finding it particularly tough to survive in the current climate, Hays maintains.

The number of people being appointed permanently to jobs in the UK's finance sector has dipped by as much as 20 per cent over the past three months.

Paul Venables, finance director at the company, is quoted by the Times as saying: "I don't have a crystal ball but clearly it is worse now than it was six months ago and it's not getting any better."

Heather Collier, director of the National Council for Work Experience, told Personnel Today recently that in years to come British businesses will use online recruitment to search more widely for the employees they need to develop.
