British job seekers 'most likely to lie on their CVs'
9.10.2008
Job seekers in the UK are more likely to lie on their CV than any other nationality, according to the results of a survey.
Research by Powerchex found that 26 per cent of Britons had some kind of major lie or embellishment on their CVs, compared to 14 per cent of applicants in foreign countries.
Furthermore, the results showed that non-graduates were 20 per cent more likely to tell a lie, as were 23 per cent of those aged between 21 and 30.
However, people aged 51 and above were found to lie the most with 25 per cent of them telling a fib on their CV.
Gordon Brown said his advice to jobseekers "is to tell the truth when they're applying for jobs" because "it always comes out anyway".
Meanwhile, this month Vodafone became the first mobile phone operator to implement employee screening on its workers.
