A majority of people working in the UK feel that some or all of their skills are going to waste, a recent poll has suggested.

The training service provider Learndirect quizzed 2,000 British workers and found that the bulk of them feel underused within their professional capacity.

In fact, more than eight out of ten of those asked by the company said that their employers had never enquired about any additionally skills they may have.

Online recruitment can enable businesses to attract the attention of people looking to leave their current job in search of a new challenge and 45 per cent of respondents to Learndirect's survey said they would appreciate the chance to use the skills they have.

The company's products and marketing director Kirstie Donneley said: "By harnessing the hidden skills of employees, bosses can transform not only their business but also maximise their employees' full potential."

A report from the Training and Development Agency for Schools recently suggested that more and more people in the UK are looking to change career at some point during their working lives.
