A BBC contract awarded to outsourcing firm Capita aiming to improve the broadcasters' human resources (HR) service is reportedly hitting problems.

The contract, signed in 2006 and worth around £100 million, aimed to deal with workplace issues such as employees' development, the selection of candidates and pay administration more efficiently.

However, there have been reports that the arrangement is not going as well as hoped, with complaints to unions being made and employees expressing dissatisfaction with the service, Personnel Today relayed.

The BBC's people director Stephen Kelly commented: "I've said publicly that while the deal has had its teething problems, I do not believe we should bring it back in-house. We can make it work and are committed to making it work."

In June 2006, employees signed over to Capita two months earlier went on strike in protest against plans to move them into non-BBC related work.
