Employees 'eager for more responsibility'

Employees 'eager for more responsibility'
5.11.2008
Many employees are keen to take on more responsibility at work but feel their managers do not have enough faith in them, results of a new survey have revealed.
According to research by Investors in People, some workers say they would take another job offer if it presented them with greater challenges.
However, a fifth of managers said they would not trust some of their employees with the extra responsibility and 19 per cent think their staff are not interested in furthering their job role.
Simon Jones, chief executive at Investors in People UK, said that managers often complain it is hard work running a business, but the research shows "employees want to share that burden and would relish the opportunity to grow in their own roles by taking on more responsibility."
Last month, Management Issues reported on an initiative in Australia which encouraged the training of existing employees to fill vacant job roles within a company.
