Employees and jobseekers looking for high-level positions have been given advice by senior executives.
TheLadders.co.uk asked a panel of executives to list the skills they thought were essential for those aiming high in the business world, Online Recruitment reports.
The most common tip was to have a good knowledge base from a variety of industries and businesses. Online and offline networking was considered essential, as was winning accolades and building profiles.
Also mentioned were listening and leadership skills along with dedication and being brave enough to make big career moves.
Sarah Drew, general manager of TheLadders.co.uk, said that to become a chief executive officer people must be "prepared to put in the time".
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, businesses are competing with each other using the skills and knowledge of their employees.
