A website that allows people to rate their employer in terms of pay and career-progression possibilities has been introduced.

The Workwired portal currently lists 400 employers whose workforce or former staff can assess and offer information about.

Greig Harper, who founded the website, told Personnel Today that the service will help to balance the employment sector in light of the National Staff Dismissal Register that was launched earlier this year.

The dismissal register enables businesses to share information on their previous employees and Mr Harper is hopeful that his site will oblige employers to be more concerned about how they are perceived.

"Good employment relations are still best achieved through face-to-face contact and effective management," remarked Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress.

A conference staged by iOpener recently at the London Business School suggested that job satisfaction is more important than money to 50 per cent of 18-year-olds in the UK.
