Government to hold flexible work discussion

Government to hold flexible work discussion
26.8.2008
The government has expressed its intentions to further promote flexible working hours for employees.
A consultation is to take place with the aim of reducing the paperwork involved with flexible working requests, streamlining the process for both firms and employers.
Among those involved in the proceedings will be employee and employer representatives, stakeholders and unions.
Discussing flexible working, employment relations minister Pat McFadden said: "It helps employees to balance their home and work lives, but at the same time gives employers the right to say no where there are legitimate business concerns."
He further added that the government is considering extending this programme as it will enable those with older children to work more flexible hours.
Law firm Nabarro recently predicted that flexible working will be taken off the agenda with redundancies and job placements becoming more common as employees attempt to avoid the effects of the credit crunch.
