Jobseekers should expect 'psychometric testing'
3.10.2008
Job seekers should be prepared to undergo psychometric testing as part of the interview process for most companies, one expert has said.
Writing in the Independent, recruitment expert Anne Watson stated that psychometric testing is often used to whittle down candidates for graduate jobs as most of these young workers do not have a long career history.
Ms Watson added that psychometric tests fall into two categories - ability and personality questionnaires.
While it is "pointless to practise" personality tests, there are a number of ability surveys available on the web that candidates should look at before an interview, she advised.
"They are likely to be in the categories of verbal, numerical and abstract and you can find lots of these on the internet," she told job candidates.
Recruiter magazine recently reported on new findings from HR consultancy A&DC that showed the types of questions asked to job candidates in interviews has changed.
