Employees who are learning new skills are happier and more confident, a new survey by the Learning and Skills Council has found.
The research also found that 85 per cent of people said they felt more creative and ready to try new things.
According to psychology consultant and life coach Anjula Mutanda, this is important as people will need a "portfolio of skills" because of the current nature of the job market.
"Our world is changing all the time another piece of research says that two out of three jobs in the future will require a higher skills level, so people really do need to take control," she added.
A report by Deloitte recently found that 27 per cent of companies questioned said their biggest investment over the next year would be training and recruitment.
