Many employees 'afraid to ask for pay rises'
14.7.2008
A new survey has revealed that many employees are afraid to ask their employers for a pay rise.
Carried out by Ceridian, the poll discovered that one in six people would be unwilling to ask their bosses for a bit extra in the pay packet, Online Recruitment reports.
Worryingly for employers, one in 33 members of staff would rather leave than ask for a rise - potentially forcing businesses to turn to online recruitment more than they would otherwise need to.
Karan Paige, chief people officer at Ceridian UK, said the results revealed a strong correlation between successful businesses and balanced reward strategies.
"Our research also reinforces the importance of performance reviews and how if managed correctly, these can help retain your top talent as well as saving the business from incurring unnecessary recruitment costs," she continued.
Online recruitment is one way in which employees can take the next step towards getting a bigger salary - according to the BBC, a job offer from elsewhere can also act as a bargaining tool when negotiating with a current employer.
