McDonald's brings '4,000 new jobs to UK'
11.8.2008
Fast food giant McDonald's will open ten new outlets over the next year, expanding its amount of UK employees by 4,000, it has been reported.
This news comes as the firm reported that two million more customers per month have been visiting their 1,200 UK branches.
The firm's chief people officer David Fairhurst welcomed the recruitment drive, saying: "This campaign is an important milestone in the evolution of McDonald's recruitment advertising - signalling a more confident and assertive attitude towards the 'McJob' term."
Around 60 per cent of the employers' UK workforce is under 22, with the average time spent in a job being two and a half years, according to the firm.
McDonald's will therefore see over half of its employees' hourly earnings increase by 17p in October when Gordon Brown's plan to raise the minimum wage for 18 to 22-year-olds comes into force.
