Public sector finance jobs 'still available'

There are still plenty of opportunities for jobseekers looking for a career in finance, despite the current economic problems in the UK, it has been suggested.
The NHS and the private housing sector are two of the areas where financial employees are in high demand, Hays Public Services claims.
With around 1.5 million workers and a turnover of £90 billion, the numerous organisations that make up the NHS all have their own finance departments requiring skilled employees.
Jan McQuaker, regional director at Hay Public Services, said: "Private sector skills are always in high demand here as they implement a wide range of commercial initiatives."
She added: "Local government is undergoing major transition in most parts of the UK, creating opportunities for accountants interested in change management."
According to a report published by the Office for National Statistics, public sector employment in the UK is now 5.77 million, an increase of 13,000 in the second quarter of 2008.
