Those using traditional or e-recruitment methods to help them look for jobs may be pleased to know that some senior recruitment professionals have a positive outlook about the future of the jobs market, despite the threat of a recession.

According to Recruiter, Encore Personnel Services conducted research which showed that 47 per cent of their clients thought they would be using the same amount of temporary labour in 2009 as they did last year.

A further 86 per cent said that next April's increase in minimum wage and holiday payment would not deter them from continuing to take on staff.

Greg Latham, managing director at Encore Personnel Services, said: "It's encouraging to note the general positivity of these responses especially as we enter into unchartered territory as far as the economy is concerned."

He also added that the survey challenges the view held by many experts that there will be a continued downturn in the number of vacancies as a likely recession hits the UK.

Last week a poll by Industrial Relations Services found that many firms still predict healthy pay rises for their employees next year, Personnel Today reports.
