As the credit crunch impacts negatively on employees' morale, there are ten things managers can do to maintain a happy and productive workforce, according to business consultant Score.
The first three points are to abolish preconceptions about employees, to view candidates from fresh perspectives and ensure they have the required materials to carry out their role efficiently.
Following on from this, it is important employees should know their responsibilities thoroughly and that they receive the right money and training for their jobs.
Managers should also take time to get acquainted with individuals to find out what their ambitions for the future are, Score advised.
Allowing employees to evaluate their superiors' performance is also important, along with keeping abreast of office events, rewarding workers accordingly and showing consistency in plans, Management Issues reported.
Around 90 per cent of permanent IT employees in the UK recently admitted they were open to other job offers, a poll by recruitment company Computer People recently discovered.
