Some employers 'still hiking wages'
29.8.2008
Not all employees are suffering due to the credit crunch, a new survey has found, as many firms are still offering their staff wage rises.
Incomes Data Services' (IDS) new poll has found that more than a third of employers offered their employees a three per cent wage rise, keeping the increase below the level of inflation, according to Management Today.
Over 25 per cent of those polled, however, had offered their employees wage rises above the level of inflation, contrary to government guidelines.
Some staff at the Construction Industry Joint Council were offered a six per cent increase in their income.
The IDS figures also found that the average pay agreement reached between companies and employees during this quarter was 3.5 per cent.
New research conducted by uSwitch.com today revealed that the average UK household is set to be £2,500 worse off in 2008 than it was in 2007.
