Technology 'makes it easier' for employers to screen workers

Employers taking on new recruits may now find it easier to screen candidates and run background checks on employees, it has been reported.

According to data quality and screening company Datanomic, new technology now means that it is easier for companies to check through very large volumes of data and compare this against government watch lists and terrorist data bases.

Previously, this was mainly only carried out in the legal sector or the financial services industry where it is mandatory. However, many multi-national companies with a global customer base could now see the benefits.

Simon Pearson, director of client screening for Datanomic, said: "The issue here is large volumes of data. We're talking about first name, middle name, last name, middle initial, date of birth, nationality and location."

Datanomic claims that it will become standard practice for all companies to screen their employees and new recruits over the next three years.
