Travelodge: Workforce will come from local unemployed

Hotel chain Travelodge has today announced it will work with local authorities to help people into jobs as part of its expansion drive.

The company announced plans to invest £150 million pounds into the building of 55 coastal hotels last month, which should generate around 1,000 jobs.

Working with the Local Employer Partnership (LEP), Travelodge now plan to choose candidates from job seekers in coastal towns and the long-term unemployed.

Director of Human Resources at Travelodge Chrissie Herbert said: "I am delighted that we will be rolling the scheme out in all of our new coastal hotels and am sure that amongst the recruits will be hotel managers of the future."

The company also says it has employed over 165 new recruits in the last seven months with 108 of these coming from the LEP scheme.

Earlier this year, the hotel chain also adopted an unusual 'speed recruitment' drive, which involved interviewing potential hotel managers for just three-minute stints.
