Women 'massively under-represented' at management levels

Women remain under-represented at management levels in businesses across the UK, according to one expert on workplace discrimination.

Senior positions are for the most part occupied by men and women tend to receive lower salaries, claims Karen Gill, founder of everywoman, an online resource for business women.

Generally, the discrimination that goes on today is less conscious than it was in the past but women still struggle to be fully recognised for the roles they perform, Ms Gill maintains.

She suggests that the customer base of most companies has changed and so the make up of a workforce needs to as well, which is an area that online recruitment could potentially be useful.

MS Gill welcomed the so-called equalities bill that has been presented to government and is designed to highlight the extent to which women are still discriminated against in the workplace.
