Employers urged to 'be cautious' over IT redundancies

IT employees whose positions have been axed due to credit crunch cutbacks could leave their jobs in possession of sensitive data, a new survey has revealed.
Of the 300 candidates polled by ID management specialists Cyber-Ark, nine out of ten said if their jobs were sacrificed tomorrow they would seek revenge by stealing sensitive information.
Another third said they would retain details of privileged passwords, some even claiming that they would keep customer data.
Responding to the survey results Udi Mokady, chief executive of the company, said IT staff will only retain a company's most secretive details "if you let them".
"Most company directors are blissfully unaware of the administrative or privileged passwords that their IT guys have access to. Our advice is to secure the most privileged data," he continued.
Allianz, a UK insurance firm, recently announced that it had received record numbers of calls from employers seeking advice on making redundancies, the Telegraph reported.
