Majority of IT employees 'looking for alternative posts'

IT employees working in the UK are disappointed with their jobs and are looking elsewhere for opportunities, a leading IT recruiter has found.
A poll conducted by Computer People discovered that 90 per cent of IT workers holding permanent positions in the UK were searching for alternative work.
Of 4,970 IT staff polled, 34 per cent said they were planning to leave their employers within the next six months, contractoruk.com reported.
The survey found factors such as poor pay and lack of opportunities within firms are the main catalysts for worker dissatisfaction.
Temporary contract work was also reported to appeal to many workers, with credit crunch redundancies and higher rates of pay having advantages over permanent roles.
Recent research has suggested that skills shortages in the IT sector and the reduction in computer science graduates could be due to the lack of entry-level jobs available in the industry.
