Employees in the IT sector have seen a significant increase in their workload over the last two years, according to new figures.

Almost half of the 500 IT employees polled by theitjobboard.co.uk said that their working hours had increased over the last two years.

Of those taking on longer days, 42.5 per cent said a greater workload was the reason.

However, managing director for the website Alex Farrell said that even with the credit crunch looming, technology-based sectors are still seeing a shortage of candidates with required skills.

"As businesses look to derive as much value from their people assets as possible during lean times, it is going to be imperative that we don't drive employees to burnout," continued Ms Farrell.

Deutsche Bank recently released a report stating that the number of major banks moving their workforce overseas has not had an impact upon the amount of jobs cuts made by companies in the UK.
