Glovers: Employers must consider legal issues of home-working
18.9.2008
Employers need to be aware of the legal issues involved with allowing their staff to work from home, Glovers solicitors firm claims.
As well as changing employment contracts and insurance provisions, intrusion into the employee's affairs must be considered if they are to be monitored, a partner at the firm told Bytestart.
Sikin Andela, a partner at Glovers solicitors, warned employers: "The consequences you could face if you don't consider the legal issues connected with home working are substantial."
There are also health and safety laws to follow and the home working environment needs to be hazard free. Therefore equipment checks and a risk assessment of the employee's home must be carried out, reports Bytestart.
Recently, a government report called Closing the Gap commented on the need for workers from female minority groups to have flexible hours and role models to help them advance in their career.
