Poor spelling tops employers' list of pet hates
21.7.2008
Poor spelling has been rated as the biggest 'pet hate' among employers polled recently by the Select Appointments online recruitment agency.
Employers hate to see words spelt incorrectly as they read through a prospective workers CV, the findings of the research suggested.
In fact, a majority of those quizzed said that they found bad spelling irritating, while poorly laid out and excessively long CVs were also found to be major annoyances for employers.
Nicola Severn from the Spelling Society told the OnRec news provider: "A CV should be seen as a chance to shine.
"It is a direct reflection of the applicant and if the CV is considered inaccurate or badly organised, there is a danger the applicant will be too."
Experts from the Charles Russell law firm recently told Personnel Today that employers should put all of the CVs they receive under close scrutiny.
