Some employers may be missing out on hiring quality staff because they are not looking for them in the right place, it has been suggested.

Research from the Institute for Employment Studies and Department for Work and Pensions shows that more people are now using e-recruitment methods and employers need to adjust to this change, Recruiter reports.

Around 37 per cent of people asked said they found their current job on the internet.

A further 56 per cent of managers say they are currently seeking a more senior position and 72 per cent say they are more likely to use online job searches.

Jo Causon, director, marketing and corporate affairs at the Chartered Management Institute, said there is "certainly a need to adjust recruit behaviour" as companies could miss job seekers and senior members of staff "who have embraced technology to boost their career prospects".

Earlier this month Pizza Hut announced that it is going to be using online recruitment methods to attract young people to the company, according to Personnel Today.
