A fast-growing South West company has successfully tamed one of the country’s fiercest dragons, after securing investment from a star of the BBC programme Dragons’ Den.
James Caan, who is known for investing in the innovative businesses of tomorrow, has been appointed Chairman of Exeter-based online recruitment company, webrecruit.
Based on the Matford Park estate but operating nationwide, webrecruit uses a number of online resources to help UK businesses recruit staff for a low flat-fee. Better still in these turbulent times, they back their service up with a money-back guarantee – so if a role is not filled, the client is reimbursed in full. Last year alone, the business helped more than 3000 candidates to secure their next job.
Unlike on the hit television show where contestants pitch their business ideas in front of five canny investors, webrecruit’s directors knew who they wanted from the start, having singled out Mr Caan alone as the ideal person to help them take the business to the next stage of growth.
They then approached the investor directly, and despite having to reject hundreds of other offers each month, he immediately liked what he saw and decided to invest.
Known for his recruitment expertise and for having successfully grown a number of businesses in the industry, Mr Caan is excited about the opportunity of working with webrecruit, saying: ‘I’ve been in recruitment for 25 years and webrecruit are the first company to put their money where their mouth is. Given the current economic climate, the money-back concept is very fitting for the times. All businesses keeping their eye on costs should consider webrecruit’s service to reduce their cost-per-hire dramatically’.
Managing Director of webrecruit, Phil Roebuck, founded the business in 2001 to give employers a way to recruit for less and candidates a much fairer way to be considered for an interview, and is understandably delighted with the chance to work with a man he describes as ‘Mr Recruitment UK’. He commented: ‘With James’ wealth of experience and passion for our service, we know we can continue to make a huge difference to the UK’s businesses and jobseekers’.
Commenting further about the process of targeting and pitching to the dragon, Mr Roebuck said: ‘I knew going into his den would be a daunting task, but always believed James would see the value of the opportunity. And I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that this dragon is just as ferocious outside the den as he is in it, but his obvious passion for people is second to none’.
