Text messages 'could follow trend for online recruitment'
11.11.2008
Following the continued use of online recruitment by some firms, the way new employees are hired may increasingly rely on technology, if suggestions from one government minister are adopted.
According to Personnel Today, cabinet secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell has called for job seekers to be notified by text message when there are new employment opportunities available.
Speaking at a conference, he said: "Expectations of technology are growing all the time. Why can't people get texts about jobs to their mobile phones?"
Sir Gus also claimed that although many government departments were being put under pressure because of the credit crunch, the number of people applying for civil service jobs is up by 22 per cent.
Last month, Recruiter reported that many firms in Northern Ireland are also now turning to online recruitment methods as they have to tighten their budgets.
