Public sector companies looking to recruit staff for entry level IT jobs may experience difficulties in finding candidates as demand is now outstripping supply, it has been reported.

According to vnunet.com, the British Computer Society (BCS) says there has been a fall in the number of students graduating from IT courses.

Therefore private sector organisations are winning the fight for job seekers with better offers and more attractive positions.

David Evans, government relations spokesperson at the BSC, said at a recent debate: "Those who can afford to raise salaries and become more aggressive about their recruitment are going to be the ones who attract the best IT graduates."

It is claimed that dispelling negative myths about the IT jobs in the public sector and promoting the benefits of job security is the only way to encourage more job seekers to consider careers in the profession.

In related news, Contractor UK has reported that because of the credit crunch there is even more competition for the highest value IT work in London.
