Recruitment drive boost government online spending
17.7.2008
An online recruitment drive has been cited as being among the main reasons for an increase in the government's total internet-based spending over the past 12 months.
Like hundreds of British businesses, the government has turned to e-recruitment to get the employees it needs and public funding for digital media initiatives rose by almost 60 per cent in the year ending March 2008.
Overall, the government spent close to £35.4 million on internet-based marketing and recruitment campaigns over the course of the 12-month period, according to the Central Office of Information (COI).
"From events and direct marketing to research and digital, both the COI's established and newer channels have shown growth over the year," said Alan Bishop, the chief executive of the COI.
Meanwhile, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs recently revealed that it is looking for an appropriate firm to develop the online presence of its Act On CO2 initiative.
