Job seekers looking to enter the education sector may be pleased to learn that some schools are looking to recruit more maths and science teachers.

This is due to a shortfall in the number of student teachers who enrolled on graduate teaching courses in physics, chemistry and maths in September, the Telegraph revealed.

However, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) says that teaching "remains a top career choice" as there were 38,495 new entrants for initial teacher training courses in the 2007-2008 period.

A spokesperson for the TDA said that although "the graduate employment market for people with maths and science degrees is competitive" a recruitment campaign being launched by the organisation "highlights the need for secondary maths and science teachers".

The TDA is the national agency responsible for the training and development of the school workforce. It is currently offering enhancement courses and bursaries in an attempt to recruit more teachers offering maths and science.
