Healthwatch Champion – Part Time (Contract)

Who will I be working for? 

Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid & West Devon is a Devon-based advisory service that helps members of the public to understand, face, and deal with problems they may be experiencing. 

Every year thousands of people come to us for advice and help with all manner of problems, from managing debt and household bills, to welfare and benefits. 

We work with Healthwatch, the independent national champion for people who use health and social care services. Healthwatch makes sure that those in charge of health and social care services hear people's voices.

We’re now looking for a Healthwatch Champion to join us on a part time basis for a contract until March 2020.

What will I be doing? 

As a Healthwatch Champion, you will provide specialist support and advice to individuals regarding health and social care services. 

Taking a casework approach when required, you will: 

- Help clients to maximise their income through relevant benefits 
- Negotiate with third parties on behalf of clients 
- Make home and outreach visits to clients when required 
- Support research and campaigns by providing insight into clients’ circumstances 
- Gather client feedback of their health and social care experiences 

What do I need? 

To join us as a Healthwatch Champion, you will need: 

- A strong understanding of the needs of older people, people with disabilities and their carers and the issues affecting their ability to exercise their rights 
- Knowledge of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and the aims and principles behind Healthwatch
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle

Ideally, you will have experience as an advice caseworker in the voluntary or statutory sectors, but this isn’t essential. 

Other organisations may call this role Healthcare Advisor, Social Care Advisor, Health & Social Care Advisor, Caseworker, Care Advisor, Advice Caseworker or Healthcare Advice Caseworker.

This is a part time role, working 7.5 – 15 hours per week. This role can be available working one or two days a week, depending on your preference of hours, to cover the Mid and West Devon districts.
